Nuclear for Apprentices

When thinking about an apprenticeship in nuclear, it is hard to appreciate the variety of career pathways on offer by this exciting industry. The nuclear industry has a proud history of apprentice development, many of the Site Directors and industry leaders of today began their careers through an apprenticeship.

The variety of apprenticeships on offer in the nuclear industry is considerable. For instance, there’s research, design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, defence, support and decommissioning. There’s also waste management and fuel reprocessing.

As well as that, you might feel your future lies in safety, quality assurance, control and instrumentation, risk management, business administration, HR, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering.

Alongside the large well-known companies there is also a wide range of opportunities with companies that supply goods and services to the industry, like construction and engineering firms.

Entry requirements will vary depending on the scheme or employer, but a certain level of entry criteria are set because employers want to ensure you’re likely to succeed before you’re offered a place. Many apprenticeship programmes also offer some fantastic benefits and perks too.
